Woodworking is about wood. Our carpenters start with a thorough technical understanding of wood: dimensional stability, moisture content, density, figure, and resistance to decay. We inventory a selection of custom milled and old reclaimed lumber at our shop; we make the boards we need for each job, and we make the tools we need to make the boards. Having complete control enables us to not just adapt what we get at the lumberyard, but to fabricate what we need right from the tree.
Outside, we include special attention to the mechanics of moisture; avoiding moisture contact, managing dimensional changes, treating susceptible pieces with chemicals, and detailing how water will drip free of the building. Careful design and the right materials are a better investment than caulk. |
